Over 1.4 million people are living in nursing homes in the United States. 60,000 – 300,000 residents of nursing homes face poor quality of care such as pressure sores, urinary tract infections, restraints, dehydration and neglect.
Last Stop is a documentary project inspired by the last years of my mother’s life as she was under the care of a nursing home. Why was her care sub-standard? What can we do to improve this system for the future?
There needs to be a Truth Commission, to tell the stories of those people who have been harmed in nursing homes throughout the United States – as well as the stories from nurses and aides who are trying to improve care.
